Dried Florals: Maintenance of feather flowers

Feather flower effects can be quite delicate and expensive, so you must take good care of them. Take appropriate measures while using and storing them. Usually there are instructions given on the cover of the flower boxes, which you must follow diligently if you want to preserve these beauties for a long time.

FOLLOWING ARE SOME BASIC MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR YOUR FEATHER FLOWER:

  • The first and most basic rule of handling feather flowers which you must follow, is, never grab the top of a flower without holding the stem. This may break the flower, or loosen it from the attachment to the body of the bouquet.

  • Though the flowers may look tempting, try to touch the blooms with your hand as less as possible. You may end up depositing oil; dust and sweat on the feathers, making them look dirty.

  • Whenever you have to handle the flowers, always run your hands in the direction of stem to tip, since that’s the direction in which they are pressed. If you do it in the opposite direction, the feathers may split and separate. If by any chance this happens, do not panic; just pull the split between your moist fingers from quill to top? This may restore the feather.

  • While transporting the feathers never put any heavy weight on top of them, they may get crushed.

  • Always keep the blooms in an open vase or container. Keep them in an upright position and do not cover. Covering them tends to flatten and they end up looking like feather dusters. Also be sure to place some pebbles or stones in the container to prevent it from tipping over.

If your blooms begin to droop, hang them upside down until they look right.
