Dried Flowers: Flower Bouquet with Buttons

Buttons with flowers embossed or glued on them add a unique zing to conventional silk flower bouquets. Give a twist to your wedding or prom bouquet by embellishing them with glass, shell or pearly flower buttons. You can choose vintage buttons too, for a classic look.

SILK BOUQUETS WITH FLOWER BUTTON EMBELLISHMENT:

You have heard about bouquets made of feathers, plastic, junk, wax and son, but have you ever heard of bouquets with button embellishments? Amazed? Don’t be, for not only are they available but you can make them easily at home too. You will be surprised to know that you can secure buttons to the flowers without thread or glue.

Materials

Glossy buttons

Silk flower bouquet

Ribbon

Needle

Thread

Method

To attach the buttons thread an 8-inch length of narrow ribbon down through one button hole, around the bouquet’s ribbon, and up through the other hole; tie a bow and trim ends. Repeat for other tail.

Below: run needle and thread in and out of holes in each button to create “stitches,” for the first and third ribbon, but do not sew buttons to the ribbon; instead, glue them in place with fabric glue, and trim ribbon ends.

For the second ribbon, place several buttons on top of each other and stitch them together; cut the end of the ribbon straight and fold the corners in, now glue them in place with the button stack on top.

For the fourth ribbon, cut ribbon end straight, and fold it up by about two inches, then fold the corners in; glue in place with a single button on top.

For the fifth ribbon, thread a narrow ribbon in and out of buttons, lay the button chain on wide ribbon, tuck ends under, and glue in place; trim ribbon ends into a curved notch.
